Our Lesbian Community Matters!

The Labrys Trust is working to eliminate discrimination against older lesbians, and aims to develop a range of services that meet their needs.

 

Background and history

The Labrys Trust was set up in 1995 by women who are part of the Northern Older Lesbian Network. It grew out of our concern about the future when independent living may become difficult. Since its foundation, the Trust has :

* written a constitution and gained charitable status;

* successfully applied for public funding;

* developed a Business Plan for 2006 - 2009;

* maintained a solid membership base; and

* recruited committed women to work on the Steering Group.

Aims and objectives

The Labrys Trust aims to:

•  Campaign on behalf of older lesbians, in order to bring our issues to public attention;

•  Address the discrimination that we, as older lesbians, face in every aspect of our lives;

•  Inform older lesbians about our rights;

•  Help us identify what services are available to meet our needs as we grow older;

•  Support and advocate on behalf of individual lesbians;

•  Through these means, help build a flourishing older Lesbian community, locally and nationally.
